hi all I have managed to pick up a 1979 irs bay set up for my splitty and if I can I want to use all the drum breaks backing ect off the splitty on the irs.so question can I do this do I need to change anything or is it a no go.  _________________ the weekends are never long enough |

Not often I say this but that is actually impossible. The split drums are splined and bolted on directly to the drive spline,the late bay are held on to the hub which is bolted on to the spline with the giant nut. The splines are different so not poss to swop.
If you want to run the bay irs you would be best to used the bay brakes and run adapters to fit wide 5 wheels which I presume is your aim?
Late bay its will only fit a split with certain adaptions, not the conventional creative engineering irs conversion for example.
Your alternative if you want to run wide 5 no adapters would be get creative irs conversion then use early wide 5 (67-69) bay irs with it. However these bits are getting rare these days! |

bugger.... well the wheels drums and breaks are all brand new so should get me a few quid towards a nice set of alloys and some brakes. thanks _________________ the weekends are never long enough

| Shame- but you should be able to keep the wheels with the right its set up. |
