The road of progression is very slow......
Gearbox is in and out at the moment. Some numpty decided to put the coolant lines down the gearbox tunnel and had the ordacity to have them exit the tunnel in the same location as the Subaru gear selector rod. Currently as it stands I'm moving coolant pipes around and making the cable shifter bracketry and rods.
I have one headlight fitted, these took a lot to work out and then realised that there was a vw mounting bracket available that suited the job perfectly, wasn't cheap and I'm my experience there is rarely anything that I've found that simply fits a type 3. I did even have to modify the bracket slightly but this was just to clearance the back of the new light.
Lastly, got new boots fitted. The 225/45/17 was largely too wide, so I've settled for a 205/45/17, I could possibly have gone for a 215 over the 205 but couldn't be bothered to keep running back and forth to the tyre shop. Next time ill just take the car down to the shop

Yeah the box knocked me back almost 3k, but that's everything new from API subaru including the quaiffe diff, lightened flywheel, subarugears.... Think I already mentioned all that previously anyway, can not wait to go out a spin with the new rendition to the car, smooth effortless gear shifting and light modern clutch
Speaking of gearshifting, ditched the cable shifter as I discovered it was far far oh so far easier to just ram the vw shift rod assembly into the tunnel and push everything out of the way and mate it to the subaru box then to make the cable shifter. Just need to tweet the front cross member now to fit the subaru box, and fit the rest of the transmission bits and nobs. Job done
That's not my garage, I wish it was thought. Belongs to Richard who's helping me piece things together. That truck is his. I've no idea about it other then it's getting a BMW 3.0 diesel and running gear and wants completely restoring from the floor up. Richard has also persuaded his uncle to fit the same engine and box I've used into a 79 bay window. He's currently waiting to the subaru gears conversion to arrive in the post. A WRX impreza is waiting outside the workshop to be stripped which cost him £700 for the donor. That's the first impreza I've ever driven and happily it felt slower then my notch and nothing like my monster BMW _________________ Think......

Vw/porsche hybrid caps
I've ditched the idea of going for a cavle shifter. Discovered it was far easier to stick a rod down the tunnel. I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to get the rod down there along with my coolant line however I've managed to shove a further 4 15mm lines down there. Two are for the charge cooler and the other for the heater rather then have them all visible. It's much better this way. Also changed my chargecooler for a Toyota celica unit I got of eBay mega cheap. I've got until next Friday to get the car outta the shop otherwise it's gonna have to stay there for two weeks as the the owner is going on holiday. Apex festival I'm booked in for a display pass with te type 3 owners club. Exciting times _________________ Think......

I've read of 400bhp, stock the st205 is 250bhp I believe. Should be able to handle mine though, Infact my gearbox is only rated to 320bhp
Been meaning to contact you. Saw your motor at the volksworld show. Looking very nice in the flesh, can imagine your well chuffed with it.
What fuel sender are you using with your 944 gauges? _________________ Think......

I figured that now your on the Volksworld A list you'd have been in that special palace bar where they have those chicks feeding you champagne and grapes for the entire weekend whilst you mingle with the fellow A lister
Yours was literally the first car I saw of the show. Came in from the camping side of the show and boom there yours was. Very impressive looking car.
Question time...

Having now lost the 924 sender within the crap in my garage I'm sure it's too long to fit into the Vw tank. I'm presuming you've made a shim/spacer to fill the excess length of the fuel sender. When I had my old tank I'm sure my type 3 sender worked the gauge fine but I made to fettle it slightly and it never worked after that. Currently the gauge isn't doing anything with the sender I've fitted leading me to think the sender has failed. This is going onto the list of things to do.
Another question,
Your monoblock callipers. They're from a boxster is that right? Care to share what's involved in fitting them to the rear? I know a spacer/adaptor is required, I've previously seen an adaptor to fit the 944 turbo calipers to a N/A Car. It's like a block of aluminium with 4 holes in it. Does the 944 handbrake mechanism work with the boxster disc? Or are you running the 944 disc and just the boxster caliper? No point in me trying to reinvent the wheel
I've got the front sorted out already. Just going to fit the entire front end of a boxster/cayman to the front of my car but that can wait until the winter months. _________________ Think......

Haha, no particularly special treatment for the show, just a couple of free tickets and a t shirt!
All your questions are answered on my website! fuel sender is a bit long so I welded in a new taller section with the correct bolt spacing.
Brakes are 996 with 944 turbo rear discs, adapters are pretty easy to sort, just position the calipers in the right positions and 'join the dots' with an aluminium block!
Front end sounds good but a lot of work... _________________ http://www.ricola.co.uk |

Must of missed the sender info on your site. I've ordered another sender this morning, may make an spacer rather then weld my tank again. Be much easier and a easier to have a working fuel gauge again.
I was looking at the Veedub engineering page and saw the brackets he makes and can easily replicate them. The disc I'm going to use are 300mm front and back.
How are you getting on with your throttle pedal? I'm finding with mine the pedal throw is too long and I'm having to bring the chair forward so I can get full throttle. I either need to change the pivot of the throttle pedal, it's going to be easier to change the pivot at the throttle butter fly. I would like to have half the travel at the throttle pedal. Just curious if your finding this with the obp pedals?
This front end of mine, having researched my options available for the front end of a type 3 it's from what I can tell is going to be the easiest. Any option requires fabrication. Either convert to a beetle frame head and then go with one of the double wishbone setups available or go custom. Going custom is probably my best option but..... Seeing as the later Porsches front end comes complete on its own subframe... The theory is to mount the subframe in the right place and construct two shock towers and using coilovers. Could all go hugely wrong, but it's all looking far too easy to do and compared to what you've been through rich this is going to be a walk I'm the park.
I've also had my driveshafts shortened, had I of known I was going to end up with all this cayman stuff id possibly have had these shafts shortened providing the cvs would of fitted. Ill measure them
One day.
