Hi All, hope someone can help!
Looking at the engine I have in the shed I can't quite work out how much work I am going to have to do in the tank area to get a hose bend to fit onto the intake manifold. I've heard about turning the manifold round, but there is that much plumbing and wiring going to it on the inlet side, and the alternator is in the way if i rotate it, that I'm not too keen.
I could radius a section out of my tank in the centre if needed as it is still in bits (I'm making it up from scratch out of sheet), but without putting it toegether its hard to work out where the pipe is going to end up exactly.
Another option I am wondering about is fabricating a 50-60 degree standoff out of some 2 1/2" steel pipe for the throttle butterfly section so I effectively set the bend radius further in towards the engine bay and away from the tank, again though, a bit of a faff. I'm kind of hoping I can just solve it with some silicone pipe !?
How has everyone else solved this one please? any photos of the area at all also?
Many thanks,
Matt.
PS its a '59 its going into. |

It is pretty quiet on here these days.
I can't help with info for a splitty. I have on my conversion spun the inlet manifold round, flopped my alternator over and got it working that way.
If you don't wanna do it that way then your two options are to mod the tank or use the throttle body stand off. RJES manufacturer these if you don't want to make it.
If your going to modify your tank then using a silicone 180 hose is going to be the easiest option.
Not much help I know as you've clearly covered most options.
Perhaps contact fellows sperd shop as they cover this I'd imagine. _________________ Think......

Thanks for the thought Kai,
I pulled my old fuel tank out of the van yesterday and had a bit of a look at the whole space - I reckon with a bit of a squeeze a silicone bend might just fit without doing anything. I may have to take the lip on the edge of the tank floor down slightly with a soft mallet.
We will see
Matt. |

Matt,
See this thread http://vwkd.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=3151&highlight= for photos on how I did mine.
I didn't need to modify the tank and I have less room than normal as my Split is fitted with a fuel tank from a Bay which is larger than the Split tank.

Hi Phil, thanks for the info !
The MAF adapter part suggests its for the early engine..!?
Fitment: Most Subaru Impreza 2.0 (93-97) & 2.5 (06MY)
Mine is a 2003 EJ20 engine, any thoughts ?
Cheers

In my splitty i used the standard inlet pipe and a piper cross filter on the end using a maf adaptor.
Look at my ej20 split pict in completed conversions. |
