Hi guys, I have a bay window with a n/a ej20 engine, which intermittently runs really well, much of the poor running seems to related to ecu matters I intend to get this converted to a megasquirt system next year.
The fuel system does not include a return to the tank, will this cause much of problem ?

Then where does excess fuel go now? Is your fuel system dumping it somewhere?

Don't know whether it would matter, running-wise. I would say no.

I think its just a blind circuit, so it remains pressurised and the back pressure stops fuel flowing , that's why I'm worried it might cause problems

Then it might be that the injectors are not getting their required fuel amount and pressure. I guess it is easy to check: hook up a hose to the return feed and let it dump fuel in a bucket or something and see how it runs?

it does make a differnce i had a problem with a 2.2 not having enough pressue the fuel pressure regulator had dies or dried up i choked the return pipe so the pressure built up and the engine would run but the engine ran badly if you have a good running van and crimp the return pipe you will see what i mean

It makes a huge difference, that;s how the efi fuel system works.

it is a loop system, dumping back into the tank and as the load increases the pressure reg restricts how much goes back to the tank so more pressure is supplied the injectors.

If you have the return at the regulator just blanked off I'm amazed you can even get it to run at all, the fuel rails would be getting quite hot, that's another part of the system returning the fuel to the tank so it can cool off.
