None of my business obviously, but even if one person uses them for a conversion after seeing an add on here it doesn't really look good for vwkd!
Honestly, the list of things that were bodged/ messed up were endless. And more worryingly every time I've phoned over the years for help I've been given bullshit answers. I was a complete mechanical novice so every time he told me what was wrong, I spent loads of cash and time fixing/replacing stuff that had nothing to do with the problem!
I spent 3 years stalling at nearly every junction, he had me doing all sorts, which now I'm a little more mechanically savvy I can see we're a total piss take. After joining a forum and finding many others with the same problems they were all adamant it needed a vss. Phoned Tsr politely asked if they had one and was told that none of the engines he uses need them and I've obviously done something that's causing the stalling.
I fitted a rjes vss anyway, 3 years of stalling over instantly!
This is only 1 of many issues/problems.
Sorry for the rant but I really wouldn't want anybody else to throw away £8500.
On the plus side my wiring and mechanical skills are considerably better! |

I take it that you've got it all working now. Do you have overheating problems? I've heard that a lot of TSR conversions do.
By the way what's a vss? |

Overheating is the last thing yet to sort hopefully!
Tsr fitted a heater under the passenger side of the dash, when I picked it up the advice I was given was that it should run at 100 degrees, if it reaches 110 turn the heater on!!!! Every journey over 5 miles the passenger had to be bombarded with hot air. I've now moved this between the seats.
No expansion tank, just a small plastic drink bottle that goes soggy and collapses with boiling water, losing loads of coolant on every cycle!!
I've replaced this with a giant bottle till I sort the full system but I'm not losing coolant anymore.
They didn't fit a bypass to the heater, so the thermostat only opened sporadically if at all. I am running without a thermostat till I sort it all out but still need fans on constant once it's warmed up.
On motorway runs I also need the heater on to keep it under 100 degrees at 70 mph. The number plate is raised with a cut out and I've also cut most of the rear valance out but it's obviously not getting anywhere near enough clean air.
Next job I think is moving the rad and fitting a bypass and a proper expansion
System. I could have done a better job myself as a complete novice than Tsr .
I've got plenty of photos of Tsr's shocking workmanship if anybody requires proof.
Oh and vss is a vehicle speed sensor ( have a look on rjes ) for the low down! |

Tsr rad at the back (I did the shoddy valance cutting myself in desperation!)
Tsr PCV system
What Tsr do to the ECU wiring, all bare ends bobbing about touching each other causing loads of problems!! Also many essential wires just hacked off.
connectors connected to nothing (PCV)
Tsr brake conversion, skinny bolt in fat hole, fat bolt in skinny hole, had to drill out and re-tap. Pretty basic stuff you'd think for the leading specialist!
More quality wiring
Tsr leading specialist expansion system, not anywhere near big enough and cant withstand boiling water!
The crazy thing is,all the things I,ve rectified to make a much better running van would be childs play to an actual mechanic and not really add much cost wise. Tsr are either thick as fcuk or couldnt give a fcuk or a sorry mixture of both!!!!!!! |

On a lighter note has anybody ever had any success with cooling a rear rad? I had a search in the kooling section but quite a few photos are missing.
I was thinking of boxing it in at the rear and feeding some fresh air with scoop/pipes.......or should I stop being lazy and stick it underneath?
Is there a tried and tested solution or is it a try and see situation? |

There should be enough airflow to cool it, after all it's enough for the original engines. The problem is channelling it all through the radiator. You almost have to seal the bay off except for the radiator.
Personally I think the best option is to stick it underneath. Fellows have had a few TSR vans in for reconverting to scoop cooling. It frees up a lot of room in the engine bay as well and allows better access to the engine.
I'm amazed that they think it's acceptable to keep switching on the internal heater to help with the cooling. |

It's going to have to be a recession busting DIY job at the moment using the same rad and fans and bits I find in the shed... I'll pop some pictures up once I've invented something |

All I'll say is that you should research, research and do more research then decide if you really want to use this company.
They are famous for their loom work and have gotten themselves a reputation for their work.
