AAZ engine - what's this?

Hi, can any one tell me what this is. Its on the side of an AAZ fuel pump, 1993. I think it's used with the cold, but how. It starts and runs ok without this, do I need it and how can I wire it up?

That's a cold start mechanism called KSB.

I don't remember if it's operating by itself with 12 V connected straight onto it, or if the 12 V was supposed to be wired in serial with a thermostat.
