Bit of an update... now that the steering all seems to work I have obviously dismantled it and re-thinking how to get a more stock looking column on the top half to use the orig stalks etc.. So I'm having a bit machined for the orig column to take the Corsa bearing will post some pics and explain when I get it back.

Anyway onto the engine now...

Had to take the engine out and separate from box as starter was fouling on the sump this meant mr grinder was called upon to make a bit of room to make it fit Grin. Also got the starter held on with 3 orig bolts now instead of 1 orig and one random undersized nut and bolt which was fitted to the old set up I had ! Bit of drilling and tapping nice and simples.

Also have Charger cooler firmly mounted courtesy of RBES and piped up to turbo.

Managed to use a combo of brackets from spare Sierra engine to mount the Escort Alternator and then half hour in halfords rifling through there belts with an old belt which was the correct width but way to long and another belt which fit perfect but was way to thin. This issue was due to me sacking off the power steering.

So engine in and let the fun commence with the wiring

I have spent a few hours on it now and just about managed to work out where, what I believe to be all the important wires go. Have to say the labels from 5 odd years ago made for some good reading 'Somewhere Above Flywheel' , 'Near TPS', 'black box by fuel filter' and so on..

On first turn on I had a airbag light and a dim battery light, but no turnover.. a bit of movement on the temp and fuel gauges (this is the orig Escort dash btw) So not the ideal start. Next outing I'll be stripping all the tape off the loom so I can see where the hell the wires are exactly going and connect up the important earths. Hopefully I'm just missing a few earths as there are loads of them on the loom.

I've used a screw driver across the starter trick and the engine is spinning over nicely so fingers x'd an evening of tinkering will hopefully see her fire up !

Wiring looks like good fun. I have bought mine into the dining room to sort out much to the horror of my girlfriend.

Good luck looking forward to seeing it run.

Made me chuckle your comment about your labeling, reminded me of mine, trying to read the labels from when I took the motor out of the donor (well those that had endured years of the engine being kicked around the garage). Most of them had blooming question marks on!!

Vans looking ace, top work on all the various upgrades brakes, steering etc and here was me happy that mine was finally running

So here it is the first start up !!! wasn't exactly first attempt on the button but about 5th after a bit of bleeding and fettling.

Unfortunately battery ran out of juice so unable to get it running properly Sad I also have a lot of wires without homes for stuff that connects to the engine which I need to sort

Smoking help

I'm sure all will be well after a bit more fiddling about JP. Good to see the old girl fire up though. Well done

Nice one mate, bout time us "old timers" got up and running, ha.

Good luck with the rest of the wiring, I'm having a nightmare with my wiper wiring at the mo.
