G'day. I have a bit of a problem. Currently I have one 10" (I think) Davies Craig thermo fan fitted above my angled frame rail rad with scoop in my '75 bay. The radiator is a 3 layer one from a JE Camira (once again, i think). The trouble I'm having is the clutch cable is severely fouling where I would like to put a second fan. The mounts are already there and all. I don't want to shift the clutch cable tube.
What I want to know is do you all think that one fan would be adequate? I know that when it is sitting there idling the fan keeps the temperature where it should be and does turn off. My worry is while driving. I think the scoop should be enough, but what about low speed driving and hills?
edit:
I forgot the important bit. The motor is a Subie EA81 with a Holley progressive. |

Better call it a Mk2 Vauxhall Cavalier or Opel Ascona C Radiator so our European friends on here know what it is _________________ 1974 1303 Germanlook Suba-Beetle

So it is a cavalier. I couldn't find anything that really said either way. |

Well the running gear anyway.
Bodies were made here which was why they fell apart on the trip home from the show room. _________________ 1974 1303 Germanlook Suba-Beetle

if the rad is big enough and scoop is efficent enough at the fan should only opperate when in traffic and under high load ie climbing a hill at motorway speed fully loaded. ps are you sure the fan you have is 10" that sounds small? thought a cavalier one would be about 14" that should be plenty _________________ 1964 rat 13 window deluxe 1Z tdi,

Pretty sure, yes. This radiator came from an earlier bus that someone converted and it was set up to run a couple of fans side by side. Only in my case one doesn't fit because f the tubes. I had to do a lot of work to get that rad to fit at all to be honest.
Not sure if I'd call this a good thing but its PO was running the rad with one fan seized solid and the other freewheeling on its shaft. |

I've hesitated on a comment...but I'm only running 1 fan.
It;s from a Ford & it's meant to be a blower from an a/c rad. Don't ask what Ford - approx 16" diameter.
It only comes on in stationary traffic (M25) but my scoop is huge. Fan kicks in for about 90-120 seconds
It might be worth PMimg "Hellbus" or "EJ71Van" on Aussies and ask them what they're running. Nice guys _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

'78 Bay, 2 litre 091 box, EJ20 NA & the ashtray's on the 'right' side.
I don't lean forward for hills any more

Thanks for the info.
Under "controlled" conditions I've found the fan can keep the temperature under control when sitting stationary idling or even at about 2500RPM (Jump starting the DD when it's having an "episode"). Bigger would be better for sure though. I have a couple of larger ones but they don't physically fit because they are from a Mitsubishi and had no reason to be small. |

Totally off topic..love your stickers but where's the "Aussievedubbers" one? Even I have one of those - highly treasured! _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

I know it's OT, but here's the lot:
I don't have an AVD one, nor do I have a KC one even though I was one of the very first people to sign up. Something like #13. I never received the promised sticker and pretty much gave up on them for years and re signed up a couple of years ago.
I'm starting to think maybe a 12" fan would be a good idea. I don't think anything much larger would fit because the radiator isn't very high. A larger fan would probably spill over the edge. |
