I know these engines very well, and have found an adapter kit to fit a cvh to a vw gearbox... But as the engine is taller than a standard engine and I wondered whether clearence would be a problem

I don't know the dimensions of the engine that well but can't imagine it being much taller than my ford derv engine would you say? and that fits..just.

Covin will hopefully trot along in a bit as he knows your engine pretty well having one in his er umm Covin Wink

i think the inlet manifold may be the problem on the rs lump..as it sticks above the rocker cover.. also... the thermostat hsg and dizzy would be the tank side and dont know if this would cause issues either,.... Sad

Inlet manifold might make it a bit to high to fit in a standard engine bay but I'm sure that can be modified. Biggest problem is dizzy, thermostat etc being tank side and impossible to get at. I'm sure I measured up my engine bay when restoring my Bus and it looked like is needed either a tank mod or the tank moving forward to accept the RS Turbo motor due to clearence issues with the dizzy I binned the idea after that.
Anythings possible with a bit of work though

2.0 L Pinto might be a better option and you can always stick a Turbo on that Grin

Adaptor plates are all the same for most of the early Ford lumps by the way.

I was tempted by a pinto but it's an old engine.. I wanted something a tad newer.. Zetecs are a no go, cause of the starter on the wrong side.
I can't remember if my vans fuel tank can go any further forward.. I've got a hatch in my van so height isn't the issue now it's the dizzy and thermo hsg.
Someone on volkszone offered me an rs engine and complete kit, with intercooler and rad and few pipes and ecu.. But he wants £650!
Reckons it came out of a covin.
I don't want to ruin my van with mega cutting incase i come to sell it.. I prob won't sell it but would like to know I could put it back..

Covin I think I sent you a PM
