Was the sender matched to the gauge?
Any diagrams of your cooling system?
Saying the header tank is warm doesn't mean much if we don't know anything about the system _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

i would email the gauge supplier with part numbers to double check? its all to easy to get the wrong sender, on my van it was a brand new vdo gauge with new vdo sender and they still didnt work together as there was about 10 different resistances in that thread do you have non contact thermometer? if you have try reading at different point on the engine & hoses to see how hot its gettting and to see if the stats opening ok? _________________ 1964 rat 13 window deluxe 1Z tdi,

Well just got a new temp gauge with new sender fitted it this weekend and have come to the conclusion that the rad position is poo! not working temp gets to 90c very quick the fan kicks in nice but as soon as you hit the A34 it will reach 100c in about 10 minutes and i have to stop and let it cool down. Have to re think that rad shame i wish i had listen to you guys sooner.
Well looks like its an underneath job coming up soon!
Front or middle?
I reckon there is loads of room in the middle which will save on the length of the water pipes |

| Been up most of the night with this, as i have a bull bar on the front i should be able to mount a rad inbetween the two vertical bars. BUT what about air blockages ? would i have to but the header tank above the rad at the front ? |

after looking at every ones ideas for the 100th time id rather have the rad out of sight which is why i stuck it in the back ( i am going to do a test run as it is ( how much air does get down the rear vents? ) ill get a mate to test it while driving along my problem could simply bee that the air is swirling around in back rather than going through the rad. If this is right then if i fit a ducting from the vent directly across the rad the air has no choice but to go through. Failing that plan b or c,d,e ? Who knows just want the bus working for this summer. Still got the inside to make good yet Massive set back |

You could try a big scoop underneath near the torsion tubes and duct/direct it to the rad _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

This should be the quote of my entire build
..move the rad dude, i wouldnt even waste the time and effort with it out back (plus even with an inspection hatch it's going to be tough getting to anything just to sevice it) _________________ '76 bay going superfly TDI |

Me sir? I was thinking more of underneath for the simplest and quickest way..
....although out front inbetween or just behind the roo bars would work for me...
I wont show you mine, it's like obi's ...just not as clean _________________ '76 bay going superfly TDI |
