hello,
I have turrned wrenches for decades, but Ill admit, re-engineering a car is quite and undertaking, not only in time, but money AND alot of practical planning.

My current thought process will have my car running as follows:

Car weight 1900 lbs:

05 USDM WRX 2.0 Turbo (227HP)
12lb flywheel with stage 1 clutch
varex muffler 2 into 1 system (keeping stock O2 sensors in place)
02 or newer shortened Suby manual trans with flipped diff. (4.44)
87 turbo 944 suspension, hubs, and brakes
18" open spoke wheels
Nose mounted radiator/condensor
Nose mounted custom made fuel cell
22mm rear anti sway bar
18mm front sway bar
early Porsche 911 rack and pinion unit
-2 degrees negative camber on the front and rear wheels
a set of bilsteins all the way around
Custom made interior
Custom made body work, and lights

What Im wanting is a car I can drive like any other. But when its time to step it up, I can, and feel like Im driving an exotic car. I love mid range punch, (when you down shift, and walk away from everyone around you).
Im not looking for a wheelie monster, nor a car that tries to break the sound barrier, but a car that feels and drives every bit like a new sports car (spirited curvey mountain road driving).

Would anyone have any suggestions beyond what I have laid out here?
Also, any corrections to my to do list would be great as well if I got anything off, for a really kick arse street car, not a drag car. Is it possible to have a car be both civilized, and psychotic, depending on how the driver drives it? Most cars Ive ridden in that were on the extreme side HP to weight ratio wise, were absurd to consider daily drivers. But I'd like a car I can drive in normal traffic too.

What car are you talking about?
If you're going to such extremes for a good drive then think hard about mid-mounting the subaru engine/box this will give much better weight distribution.
Cheers Ian.

There ya go, theres the website.
US Based site
http://www.sterlingkitcars.com
or UK Based site
http://www.euro-nova.co.uk/forum/

I know a mid engine setup would be excellent in weight bias, however every attempt has been applied to do this. It has come down to, there is no way to mid mount a Suby engine and trans without cutting up the pan, and having to redesign the entire rear suspension system.
So this will be a rear engine mounted design. Using the Suby / Suby setup will offer a smaller more foreward mounted setup than using an adapter.

The cheapest tubular frame Ive found to replace the Type 1 pan for a mid engine setup starts at 8 thousand, and goes as high as 25 thousand.

Hi, looks like a nice parts list - do you already own the car or intend on buying one?.

Yes, I own it.
The WRX engine is on a truck on its way to my work shop.
I already have the motor and trans mounts made for it as well.

Ok Bud, Porsche 944 Suspension and brakes are a good upgrade on a VW chassis and certainly offer the use of Porsche wheels - but maybe for the type of handling and adjustability you look like your after, then maybe you should check out this website?. www.red9design.co.uk

Yes, I have seen that one and the eyeball engineering one as well.
Those are on my "when Im rich and famous" purchase plans. Given they are 2 to 3 thousand each. Grin

Problem is, after talking to a volksrod person using the porsche braking systems on these custom made front ends, can apparently litterally rip the control arms off the front of the car.
I go for something like it, but alot beefier, in its build.
