What year engine?

Are PSA engines (1.9 or 2.1) the same as VW engines where they started off with little or no electronics then went all silly and fitted an ECU etc on later models?

If so what year of engines are best to source and from what cars?

i used a 1996 year peugeot 306 d turbo engine and this was fairly easy to use only problems where the sarter motor needed changing to a peugeot 205 item , the manifold (inlet) had to be modified and the imobiliser solonoid had to be bypassed. other wise pretty straight forward.
