The most important things are dont lose the internal baffles and don't lose too much capacity

I did my conversion pretty cheaply but the sump is about the only thing I spent big on, its the most exy part of my whole conversion
It was AU$600 for a custom vee-dub sump but theyre worth the money.

Holds 4.25L which is 250mL more than a stock subi one but is 3.5" shorter than one, brings it back to a stock vw engine height

Thanks for that.
I started making my own this week & have ended up with something very similar, although I didn't go out front way & kept the very bottom bowl of sump, as I was worried (after reading a thread on here) about a completely flat bottom. Also didn't attempt the bolt holes as it was getting too complicated. Might be abit of a job to bolt up but I should just ba able to with some messing & cursing! When its on it'll be staying on!
Its all tacked up waiting to be welded.
I'll try & post pics when done.

I've done similar to Joel's setup on the EJ20 I have in my garage. I'll see if I can find images at home. Go for baffles as well, super easy to do and protects the engine.

Some BMW sumps got hardcore rubber baffles:
