Okay, I've made a start on my conversion so thought I'd start a project thread. Its going to be quite a slow job as I'm doing it myself & am easily distracted!

I've had my 87' syncro for about 7 years now. It started life as a government vehicle. I bought it unseen off ebay & is probably the best £1500 I've ever spent! (Dread to think what I've spent since then though!). It had been looked after 7 apart from the usual seams rash was very solid. Is just great fun to drive & being a syncro is just that extra bit different.

As I bought it. First time my wife so it was as our wedding car.....

The girls learnt to drive in it (aged 4).......

We had some great times/holidays in it but I got distracted (I told you) with houses & work & kids & the old bus kind of went to seed. It was a sorry state couple years back........

The wheels & interior had gone to another van, the chrome bumpers to the tip!! (Unbelievable! Sad

)

Someone left a note on it offering to 'take it away'. I said No thanks & this spurred me on to set about restoring it........

Its a start, more to follow.......

I have a 2.2 in my Syncro (see pic in Project69 thread) if I can proffer any advice etc just ask.

Okay, I'm going with RJ's bellhousing & loom but what support & sump did you go for? Have you got your engine bars back on? Have you got a pic-story of conversion anywhere, love to have a look through. (See how its done!

With a nice looking van the hunt for a EJ25 SOHC Subaru, for sensible money, began.

Easier said than done. Eventually found this one about 120 miles from home. Spoke to owner 3 times, all sounded good, Took a day off work. Hired a trailer (£50) Drove 240 miles (round trip £80). Got there & 'engine management lights is on'!
"You never mentioned this"......"Oh it just come on this morning"....Tw@t!!

I was already in for £200 so, after abit of negoitiation, I decided to take a gamble & we did a deal.

Then, 10 miles from home, things really went wrong..........

Ended up facing the wrong way on the dual-carriageway! help

After, Police, Ambulance & drama I eventually got home.

A friendly mechanic checked out the fault (just a sensor) & did an emmission test. All was good so the breaking began.....

I'm trying to hurry but the shear amount of work ahead is alittle dis-heartning!!

You have to:
1/ use the picture uploader to copy them onto our server (don't use spaces in the filenames)
2/ copy them into Photobucket then link them.

Have a play in the test area. We'll fix them if it goes a bit Pete

Sorry for the delay in responding, seems I don't have notification when someone posts.
The sump issue is a proper pain, you have no option but to shorten it unless you want to leave a BP sylee slick the first time you go over rocks.

No option but to drop it and either have it done for you or DIY if your welding is up to scratch.

Look away now Richard Jones (Richard ar RJES is a brilliant bloke - loads of help and support and someday he has promised a cast shortened sump with mounts for his beautiful stainless zorst which will save welding a bracket to the sump).

The engine bars need refabbing to fit. Mine came with a real hacked about set and I have a second set that I plan to modify in a way that does not make them look like they were thrown together by a blind man during an epileptic fit!

You need to decide if you are going to stick with the originals and pick where you are going to slice them and extend. Suggest you measure several times and then cut as they are pricey second hand.

Richard will do a good job on your loom

All happening.
Have taken delievery of shiney RJES bellhousing & is now ready to bolt to my cleaned up scooby. As soon as I get some flywheel bolts it'll be getting put in bus.
Stripped Legacy is now at the breakers, got £82 scrap which was better than I'd hoped.
Loom is off to Richard next week.
