Evening all!
Ok let's get the intro's over with:
I am a serial VW owner, I have tried to give it up but have no will power.
History - 3 Beetles, 1 Bay, 1 Beach Buggy.
Current - VWT3 2.1 Westy Camper, US import 50K on the clock first time round and the ScoobyVelle - VWT3 EJ2.2 Syncro Caravelle.
Project - 1969 Karmann Ghia Coupe - currently bought as an Airfix kit of parts in boxes.
The plan - 2.0 WRX engine install and full restore.
So a few pics.
The Westy:
The ScoobyVelle:
And now for ..........Project69:
May have secured a Scooby motor and parts to add to the kit. Am advised by Mr RJES that some serious bracing may be required and this seems to be a very good plan.
This is the inspiration and what is driving me to do this properly, only this one is Porsche powered and cost 200k euros - bit outside my budget.

Hi Paul.
That's Clive's old ghia. (The wreck not the Porsche!!) It's looked like that for years. Floorpan looks good though.
Are you planning on using the subaru gearbox? I take it you've checked out 'SubaruGears' in Oz.
I like the idea of that in a Fastback. Will follow with interest. _________________ VW T3 camper awaiting Sumo power!! |

Yep it certainly is Clive's old Ghia.
And I now have an engine sorted: 2.0 Scooby turbo from an STi 1 or STi 2 from around 1994, which should be 260 - 270 bhp according to Mr RJES.
So, now have to plan for the box, suspension, stoppers and some serious bracing to keep it all together - much fun!!! _________________ My other name is Paul. 1986 T3 Westy, 1989 T3 ScoobyVelle, Project69 - Subaru into a 69 Ghia

Ok aye - it's not a wreck you cheeky git, it a "kit of parts"
Not checked out the option for using Scoob box, a US company has made a reversed gear to allow rear engine install and use of 4wd but the cost is a wee bit high.
Will trot off and check out what the Crims are offering, ta for the pointer. _________________ My other name is Paul. 1986 T3 Westy, 1989 T3 ScoobyVelle, Project69 - Subaru into a 69 Ghia

Welcome mate.
I think you'll find the reversed gear is Oz based It's Ttribbler, who's on here too, along with some other Aussies.
Rich's kit is a very nice bit of "fit and forget". I vaguely remember seeing mine about 4 years ago. I'm sure it's still there _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

glad you made it on here Paul , I'll be on here a lot more again now as after a busy year I've gotten rid of a few motors and will concentrate on my wrx bug again.
It's all my spare conversion stuff he's getting (as I've sold my crewy). so I'm glad it'll finally be put to good use! _________________ '72 Ratty Bug - Subaru EJ20 Turbo motor. |

ps. kafer bar or such like should sort out bracing and stop you wheelhopping all over the place.... unless you change your mind about fitting a cage to do the job that is! _________________ '72 Ratty Bug - Subaru EJ20 Turbo motor. |

might be alright with a stock 6 rib bus box for a while - then when it does go get it built up.
theres a few that have run stock bus boxes with ej20t's for a while trouble free... _________________ '72 Ratty Bug - Subaru EJ20 Turbo motor. |

Box - Richard @RJES suggested the box.
Re bracing - thanks for the info Matt, may see if some internal bracing may remove the need for a full cage - want it to look production rather than race.
Cheers for all the comments chaps, more info as it happens. _________________ My other name is Paul. 1986 T3 Westy, 1989 T3 ScoobyVelle, Project69 - Subaru into a 69 Ghia

Ok I now have an engine and ancillaries from Matt (MostylMonki) and will begin the process of checking it all out and making sure everything works.
Engine stands have arrived so working on it should be easier.
The ECU has the following part code A18-000 D08 and is a 7D which I believe is a Japanese ECU, but more research will be needed to confirm.
When there is some light tomorrow I will get the engine out from the Syncro where it has been since Matt and I loaded it in last week and check for any identifying features. _________________ My other name is Paul. 1986 T3 Westy, 1989 T3 ScoobyVelle, Project69 - Subaru into a 69 Ghia
