I've done a search and come up with nothing soooo....

can the longitudinal gearbox from a recent Passat/Audi A4 etc be used in a bus? I understand that the diff probably can't be flipped but the whole box could be if the breather was plugged and the box filled with oil and an expansion tank used.

would the engine bolt back on to the upside-down box or would an adapter still be needed? It would be a cheap way to a nice low-revving 5 speed gearbox.

would the linkage not be back to front? could make for a very interesting gear change pattern

small price to pay for a nice lazy fifth gear. You'd get used to it. Wink

so are there any major pitfalls to a conversion like this? I presume mounting it would be interesting but with the engine supported by its own bar/mounts then just a nose mount would be needed, the engine and box could be fitted up as one unit.
