well guys after 28 hard years in the camper i think its about time the 2l air cooled engine got retired or maybe used for something else due to both cam covers leaking and the crank seal also gone.
looking for into on what vw engines and/or boxes i could use to convert my camper to something a bit more modern and more powerful giving better drivability and econamy.
i was looking towards something like a old mk2 golf gti engine or something along those lines.
any info and recommendations would be welcomed
i bought this camper with the intension of restoring it to its former glory and generally improving it for show use and general use. |

quite an easy conversion.........in a water cooled bus.
you basically need a w/c T25 to rob all the bits from to make it work properly. Can be done, i've seen it done.
Is the bus that good that you want to keep it? not just buy a w/c camper? _________________ '79 Bay running citroen 1.9td and phat tyres! |

Illzlee, you've got wrong perspective. Of course the bus should be converted!
Buy a Golf and pick the bits and pieces you need, or buy and engine and the other parts separate. There are numerous T2's out there with water cooling so it's for sure possible, Golf is an easy option but there are other engines as well.
Know when you've got an air cooled, I would go for the "belly bottom cooling" where the rad is mount underneath. |
