Ok following on from my last post finally drove away from my mates work shop as engine finally running and has took on majority of water and no fault codes not even a 33!
Anyway instantly when trying to accelerate there is a loss of power. Splutter then stalls. Try again and I manage to get into 3rd running on the injectors without throttle but as soon as i accelerate it will go full pelt perfect and then it's as if it's run out of fuel stalls.
Fault code is 22: knock sensor, have tested the knock sensor as per the manual and it is all ok. Now because re-routing the wires a different way around the block (see not starting) the wire to the knock sensor had to be extended about 15cm to reach. This is the only alteration.
Engine ticks over/idles perfectly.
Accelerates perfect through 1st slightly 2nd then nothing.
My electrician friend reckons that the wire i use to extend the wire to the sensor is affecting the sensor as it needs to be encased with steel braid to stop any interference being picked up by the sensor. Is this the case?
He also thinks that there is a possibility that the ecu recognises the change in length and thinks there is a problem. Any ideas?
I am cofident that it is a case of just sorting the proper size/type wire to the sensor as i don't believe the engine would run as well as it does be it intermittently.
Any advice anyone may have on this would be much appreciated.javascript:emoticon(' ')
Thanks
Griff
ps, i am positive i haven't plug in the wrong thing this time.javascript:emoticon(' ') |

Was it a sheilded cable in the first place? I can't remember. If it was, grab some aluminium sticky tape - not the duck tape, but the proper stuff. Wrap the extension with it, now grab some of the OG shield and contact it with the extension.

Length shouldn't make too much of a difference if you have used a quality cable to make the extension. 5A mains cable would do. You'll get diddly squat droppage voltage drop over that length. _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

Visually check the knock sensor, they develop a hairline crack in the casing and this causes the ecu to throw up the code occasionally.
I had the same code come up on my legacy outback, even the same reluctance to accelerate, replaced the knock sensor (ebay £50) and now perfect
here's my old sensor, you can see the hairline crack in line with the centre of the plug.

Length won't make a difference but the type of cable and the method of extending it does.
If it was originally shielded then the extension will need to be shielded as well. |

Removed extension and redirected wiring back under reversed coolant manifold. Unfortunately snapping in the process. Previously torqued up as per manual, but didn't even loosen just sheered off.
Anyway no more error code engine runs/drives fine. All water in and not over heating, but the neighbours are complaining.
Next problem: that coolant manifold is weeping slightly. Reckon i am gonna try some bars stop leak first. But fear a total strip down is inevitable just hope it holds until August when i get my workshop.
Thanks again! |

Ok i am all up and running now, however i am still getting fault code 22 & 33. Now i have always had 33 as i have no VSS fitted but has never been a problem. The knock sensor fault is confusing as engine is not cutting out or giving symptoms as it did previously.
Even more confusing is an error code of 53, the codes i am in possession of only go to 52. Anyone shed any light on this code?
Thanks
