I have shortened my sump and pick up tube, fitted an external filter and cooler. now i have filled it up with oil and started the engine now i have no presure at all. The oil seems to be getting to the cooler and filter ( i undone the fittings and oil came out). I removed the presure senser behind the alternator and cranked the engine over expecting to see oil pump out but it didnt.
Is it possible to have an air lock in oil system? Or maybe the oil pump isnt powerfull enough to push oil around the pipework.
I removed the small pipe that was welded to the inside corner of the sump i asaumed it was a return pipe, this wouldn't affect anything would it? |

Think i left about 5-10mm clearance, i think i am going to have to drain down and remove the sump its filling up the filter and cooler ok, so it must be picking up the oil . |

Daft question, did you put the pipes on the right way around?
I believe some filters do not work in reverse.
I may be talking horlicks though _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

As I said I might be talking Horlicks.
But I know for sure on Beetle Full Flow adaptors the "In" and "Out" are clearly marked.
I'm sure there's a one way valve in them, but I won't bet on it _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

I had a similar problem when fitting an external oil cooler on my Triumph TR6, it turned out to be the oil temperature stat was not large enough for the oil flow capacity. It worked fine when i changed the stat for a larger type. Just a thought .
I think illusive could also be right about the oil filter orientation theory, because a lot of them have a one way non return valve fitted inside them _________________ HMMM, dont know yet, but i'll have a go!!!! |

Sorted, elusive was spot on. I had the pipes crossed over and there must be a one way valve in the filter. Just a simple job of swaping them over.
Thanks for your help, you saved me loads of work because i would have never thought of that. I don't post on here very often but if i ever have a problem this is the first place i go. Top work lads. |
