Ok once i get the brake disc conversion kit bolted on my 2.2 legacy bus i want to focus on diagnosing the lit fault bulb on the ECU, the bus runs well and will pull 90mph easily with more to go . But i would like to be able to iron out any problems.faults with the ECU before the camping season starts . Lots of OBD2 stuff for sale on Ebay but no OBD1 . So where do i go from here?
Thanks in advance,

Plug the black, single pin error code read connectors together, turn the ignition on (but don't start the engine), and decipher the morse code type 2 digit error coder (dashes = tens, dots = units). No equipment needed. You can get more info out with diagnostic gear, but it's rarely necessary. _________________ Regards,

Thanks for the reply. Are the error code connectors part of the original loom?. If so i may need to use the pinout to locate the wires due to the loom being modified?. And where is the fault code indicator indicator located, or is this actually the fault indicator lamp that i need to be reading?. Sorry if i'm being a bit thick _________________ HMMM, dont know yet, but i'll have a go!!!!

Yes they are. You'll see them located on the wiring diagrams. IIRC they also go to the Subaru "Select Monitor" plug

It won't be too dificult if you can read a diagram. You could always remake the connections at the ECU

All dependant on years. Early ones were actually on the ECU. Later cars had the bulb in the dash. Just supply the lamp with 12V as the ECU takes the other side to ground. If you use a 12V LED remember "Long leg, red"

Cheers Elusive . Will get going on this one when the weather improves. The donor car was a 92 Legacy which had the ECU fault lamp on the instrument pod, so i'll try reading that . Just need a table for the codes _________________ HMMM, dont know yet, but i'll have a go!!!!
Click "Suby-engine 1" then go to the tabs below, click "Wiring" and near the bottom's a file called "Idiots Guide to Subaru EJ ECU Codes"
Then read the one under that "Subaru ECU Trouble Codes"
