Hi guys
Thought you'd all like to see ermintrude back on the road after 3 years being restored/updated
We managed to get her MOT'd on Monday and so where able to use her for our wedding as well.
Almost every panel available was expertly welded in by the talanted Jim at Cotsweld, including a complete Calafornian front end. The end result is great I really can't fault his work
Wheels are 17" by 7.5 off a merc and needed drilling and new tapers putting on to fit. Front seats where out of an audi TT and brakes are all type25 90's stuff although I'm gonna work out a rear disc conversion, I'll post details if and when it works.
To make it go as well as it looks we went the subaru route with a na EJ 2.2 engine. Using a DS tuning adapter plate and a custom engine brace and rad brace from Paul at Lateshift Racing. Paul was also cool enough to let us use his lift and tools for a day as a wedding present, without this and his expert advice it really would not have been finished. He can make really nice rad and engine braces for scoobies in any year of bus and they require no welding as they bolt in.
Loadsa rad probs at the mo so looking at one underneath, I'll let you all know
With everything closed you can hardly tell, other than the stepped no plate and a sneaky bit of rad showing out the bottom.
Finally I've got to thank Tanya, my wife, for all her hard work including a custom dash and carpets. She's halfway through the leather tuck and roll panels and seat covers and so far it looks great
If anyone else is thinging about going scooby powered then let me know. I've done most of the work myself and I reckon I've spent about £1000 including the 2.2 engine with only 80,000 on the clock. If enough people are interested I'll post up my problems prices and methods, but in the mean time...
Check out
rjes.com for almost everything
Jim at Cotsweld is on 01242 232084
Paul at lateshift Racing is on 01242 241400
The exhaust came from Jetex.co.uk
Hope you like
Cheers

Am really liking that great work
Would be great if you could find time to do a bit of a write up about the work involved, problems, costings etc... I think the site lacks a bit of a 'what's involved in converting your bus/bug' as generally that is the first question asked.
Congrats on getting married btw.
Look forward to seeing your bus in the flesh somewhen in the future. _________________ 1971 Devon Bay with 1800 Ford Turbo Diesel Engine (wip)

Congratulations on the wedding to you both.
Oh and commiserations on the headgaskets, I had the same on Friday night whilst driving down to Vanfest, coming down the A46 at a nice lick I noticed the car behind had his windscreen wipers on!
I'd pressurised the whole lot so much it had split a small seam on the rear mounted radiator and was gently peeing all over the car behind!
Anyway I let the pressure off and we let her cool down a bit then carried on to Vanfest, it got me there and back without any more incidents but I now have to drive her very gently indeed.
Oh well its so damm lucky I have a luverly TurboD sitting in that ZX Volcane in my workshop. I'll have em swapped around by the end of next week as we're planning a quick last trip to the lakes before winter sets in. |
