does anybody know if a 205/45 17 tyre will go onto an 8" wheel. i have 215/45's at the mo but want thinner ones on the front.

I have 205/45/17's on a 7.5" rim and they fit just about perfectly. if anything I would say they are slightly too narrow but then I like to have a lot of rubber hanging over the edge of the rim.
You'll be heading towards that strectched tyre look if you go that route but I think you'll be on the sensible side of it.
