Ok at some point i'm gonna need a suitable revcounter and Temp gauge to install in front of the bus and operate within the wave and resistance parameters of the scooby ECU output and Temp sender output. Any idea of what gauges i can use? i suppose i could cannibalise the scooby pod gauges but they aint gonna look nice _________________ HMMM, dont know yet, but i'll have a go!!!! |

and as for the tacho - pretty much any aftermarket one should do, as you can run it directly from the tacho wire on the ecu. I've got a sunpro one and it works just fine. _________________ '72 Ratty Bug - Subaru EJ20 Turbo motor. |

Thanks for that, i already have one wired up on my existing type 1 engine so i should be able to use that then . I might have to move the red line indicator up a bit for the scooby tho _________________ HMMM, dont know yet, but i'll have a go!!!! |

just stick a bit of tape on it.
You don't need a rev counter. You'll know when you hit the redline _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

The Subaru ECU rev counter output will drive some gauges designed for connection to the coil negative terminal, but not all. Those which do not work include standard T25 gauges and Autogauge.
I can modify the standard T25 rev counter (or any other 10mA (ish) FSD moving coil (i.e. not stepper motor) rev counter) by replacing it's driver circuit with one which I make which can be driven by either a Subaru ECU or a coil negatibe terminal. I can also recalibrate the gauges, for example if anyone fits a 7000rpm T25 gauge face, etc.
The temp gauge in a T25 can be driven with the Subaru sender by tweaking the circuit to modify it's output slightly. I include this mod in all harnesses I convert for T25's. With aftermarket gauges, you could try the standard Subaru sender, or modifying it's output, or just fit the sender intended for the gauge. It's up to you. _________________ Regards,

Many thanks for the response, my van is 68 bay window and the tacho works off the switched negative (points) , so i assume as long as the scooby ecu emits 4 pulses per crank revolution it should drive my tacho with a bit of luck.
The baywindow obviously has no temperature gauge, so what i must need preferably is a retrofit gauge which is compatible with the resistance parameters of the scooby sender, a VDO one perhaps??.
Thanks,

Just get a VDO sender and matching gauge.
If you use the Scooby sender and VDO gauge you'll have to put in a 'drop resistor'
No prizes for guessing where my gauge is _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

I dont suppose the VDO sender fits in the engine as easily as the VDO gauge sits in your instrument pod? _________________ HMMM, dont know yet, but i'll have a go!!!! |

Yes but don't overtighten it
The thread sizes are different
Subaru 1/8 BSPT
VDO 1/8 NPT
ones 27 tpi the other 28
Search for TPI on here for more info
Bad practice but I've been running like that for 2.5 years with no probs at all _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.
