Can you pop into your engine bay and disconnect the tank breather pipe, the one that would go to the VW airbox, blow and suck on it. It's the one that runs to a T and two steel lines run up into the "ears"
Let me know what you can do
Mine appear to be blocked if I suck, therefore my tank's not breathing. It did before as my filler elbow was split The cap's non venting too, big suction now!

hang on a minute.... shouldnt that be the case? as-in, you should be able to blow into them (when the fuels level drops, it sucks in air) but not suck, assuming theres a one way valve there!?
I've got a late bay at home so will check when i get back... _________________ '72 Ratty Bug - Subaru EJ20 Turbo motor. |

..But on the subject, ive sealed my tank up bar the subaru pump and tank filler...will the charcoal canister act in the same way as a breather?? _________________ '76 bay going superfly TDI |

Make sure the tank vents ie air can get in. I've been very lucky!
Mine's obviously stopped venting after I changed a split filler elbow
Yes the tanks are meant to be flat bottomed!
I didn't have the Scooby canister in place (well it worked fine with the split filler neck!)
My VW vents work both ways, ie suck and blow.
Now in hindsight (wonderful thing) VW vented the tank to the airfilter *not* the manifold.
Live and learn.
I hope my mistake means you peeps don't have to make the same one. _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

Grim eh?
I did wonder why it only took £35 to fill her over the last month or so. Blamed it on the price of juice dropping _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

Thats pretty scarey. Thanks for the post and the pictures.
I'll update the notes in my site referencing the charcoal cannister installation to ensure that everyone checks the flow before buttoning up.
Cheers
