I'm from Cd Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. Cd Juarez is the border with El Paso, Texas US. Actually here in the north of Mexico Subaru cars are not well know.

Here, most of the offroad runners uses modified vw engines in their cars, but I think I can be more competitive and expend less in engine maitenance with a non modified subaru engine.

I'm running with a subaru EA81 engine, my competitors uses vw Jetta 2.0L Engines. So I would like to upgrade to a EJ25.

Since we are too close with the USA, I'm planning to buy the donor car in the US and import it into Mexico.

My primary language is spanish, not english, so you will find sentences not properly written.

Saludos.

Saludos, your english is great.
There's a lot of non native english speakers on here, Sven & Gerrelt are 2 of the top posters on here

Subaru engines are really nice, fit and forget almost. You should be able to get a nice deal from the USA

It might be worth registering on subaruvanagons on yahoogroups for a donor vehicle. Nice bunch over on there, just try to keep it T3 related Wink They only really like to talk about Vanagons (hence why the group was founded). There's often Subaru's for sale on there

If you get stuck on names of bits, post a picture of it. They work well Happy

OK, I have now a donor car, it is a Forester 2003.
VIN: JF1SG65683G751112
Year: 2003 Style/Body: Utility / Wagon 4D
Make: Subaru Engine: 2.5L H4 MPI
Model: Forester XS Country of Assembly: Japan

The car is still in process of transport/imports. So lets wait until we have it. In the mean time. What can I start planning regarding the conversion?

It looks like at this point I can:
- Review the removing procedure at http://www.rjes.com/html/95-98_2_0_n_a.html . (Help here! I can not see the images!.)

- Get familiar with the engine harness in order to know what cables I dont need and which ones I do. (I have not find this information on the web).

- Any other?

Regards,

I've mailed Rich as I can't see the first set of images either.
There's a "sticky" at the top of the "Subaru Power" which will tell you which bits you need also.

Sorry certain images on the site don't work. I'll try to fix it when I get a chance, but that it not likely to be any time soon, as I just don't havre time. An MY03 EJ25 ought to be a good donor apart from any possible issues with the Japanese spec wiring harness.

Try looking here on Gazman's site:
http://osp.metrohosting.info/wiringgallerysubaru.html

03 Legacy (AUST) and 04(USDM) should get you in the ball park Happy

Ok, I continue planning my upgrade. Something that takes my attention is the use of a VSS. So far I have 3 options:

1) Use an std speed cable into my offroad porject and use RJES VSS. The problem here is that if I later change the front suspension I would need another options for the vss.
2) Do something like using 4 magnets and a reed swith.
3) Use the this: http://www.enginewiring.com/Products.html

However, the question for option 3 is:
How does the ECU uses the Speed info? I guess it has to adjust "something" depending on the speed the car running.

My concern with that device is that it could send a "Good looking" signal, not the right signal. And thus the ECU working with wrong information that could derive to an engine not performing as it could.
