well my Bug with ej20 turbo is in for its mot (wish me luck), but on the wat there it cut out 3 times with what seemed like fuel starvation. I'm hoping it was just that it was low on fuel, as it only happened when i was on a hill (up and down), and I'd only put a fiver in it from a jerry can from empty.
just in case its not that though, anything else you guys can think it might be?
symptoms: cutting out when wide open throttle (if you back off it settles again), ony did it when i was on reasonably steep hills, twice pointing up, once down... might just be a coincidence though!? _________________ '72 Ratty Bug - Subaru EJ20 Turbo motor. |

no, running a stock 60's bug fuel tank, with a high flow aftermarket fuel pump mounted below it. surge tank might be a good plan anyway though... _________________ '72 Ratty Bug - Subaru EJ20 Turbo motor. |

You definitely need some sort of constant fuel supply, with that little fuel I'd be amazed if you didn't have those symptoms, either mod your tank for a swirl pot or fit an external one... _________________ http://www.ricola.co.uk |

not trying to put the frighteners up you but you can do serious engine damage to a turbo motor if it starves under boost
even an NA SOHC EJ has dramas with no surge tank definately in a bug but i know someone with a bay that had problems to and the tank is almost straight above the engine
ive just bought a nice stainless steel one for my bug im waiting for to arrive _________________ 1974 1303 Germanlook Suba-Beetle

hmm, not sure that it's just the lack of swirl pot thats causing me problems. when i picked it up i had similar (but not as frequent) problems, and thats with a completely full tank of petrol.
I've got a feeling it might be electrical, as I switched the rad fan off at one of these "moments" and it seemed to help.... so wondering if the fuel pump is trying to draw more power than its able to (battery/alternator issue maybe).
will investigate some more.... _________________ '72 Ratty Bug - Subaru EJ20 Turbo motor. |

Baywindow fuel pump? The stock one for carb'd motors is only about 5-8psi. Scoobies need ones around 3 bar (45psi) _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

Ahhh ok. Mine was a '78 2l with a stock mechanical pump.
My bay's not running a swirl pot (EJ20 NA) and hasn't had any probs. I did have a 10mm pipe brazed onto my tank though.
MM, check your connectors. My pump (Jag) only uses a 10A
What size feed supply have you got to your pump, the same as the pump inlet? Check filters etc
I know sod all about the turbo set ups but check your vacuum pipes etc. _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.
