Hi folks, I am in the planning stages of converting a 1972 Bug to subaru power.

I have been looking around for a Legacy as a donor, I plan to buy an on the road car and drive it for a month or so to ensure there are no problems first.

My main question concerns the three main engines available and their respective ECU's.

If I buy a 2.0l (EJ20) and convert the bug but later decide to put in an 2.2l (EJ22) or 2.5l (EJ25) will I need to replace the ECU's or will the EJ22 and EJ25 run using the EJ20 ECU?

Non of the above will be turbo motors.

help

It's not just the ECUs that are different, the wiring will be too... Save yourself a load of aggro and go wiht the one you really want, then if there are engine problems in the future you could swap over all the electrics with minimal effort

Dunno what Mr Doppleganger Sir said, but what Ricolla said is true.
The wiring/ECUs are specific to the engines.
Not just a chop and change.

sorry mate, I just wasn't all that clear what you meant.

Thanks everyone, I think I'll wait it out to find a 2.2l, which is what I wanted originally.
