I have a 25 with a smokin diesel engine and need to sort out a replacement. I also have a scrapper Mk2 golf with a good 1800 carbed engine...

Do these fit onto the JX mounts and will they use the same gearbox bellhousing? I know that being carbed i will have to modify the inlet manifold to maintain a level carb and i would also drysump the engine to get around the pickup but is there any more or is this a bit of an untried conversion??

cheers

ive done this on my old t25 1.6td its a very easy swap but i used a 1.8 digifant efi motor out of a 90 gti. just use all the jx bits sump(block turbo drain with a bung from a hydraulics place), oil pump, oil filter, coolant hoses and outlet pipes, flywheel and clutch etc & DONT FORGET TO FIT A SPIGOT BEARING IN THE END OF THE CRANKSHAFT!!! its a day job to pull the old engine and swap all the different bits from the jx to the 1.8 petrol and then refit it then your on your own with the inlet manifold Laugh Out Loud

If you can source a South African Inlet manifold for the 4 cylnder engine its a piece of cake!

Or alternativly why not think Diesel like a 1Y 1.9 non turbo engine! There great in ex TD vans
