i think on the peugeot it fits at the back of the engineat the top facing a groove in the reaf of the flywheel . some peugeots picked a pulse from the loom in the dash after a stabilizer.... go for ford diesel, far easier, a proper good diesel. good luck ..nobby

Dissin the Ford
I have to agree pug engines are tops I have a Pug 206 Hdi and a Golf GT TDi 150 as my daily runners at the mo and I have to say the pug engine is far far smoother and doesn't smoke like the golf engine... however the golf is immensly faster.
I was always under the impression the Ford Diesel Engine was something to do with Peugoet ! anyone confirm or deny this ? _________________ 1971 Devon Bay with 1800 Ford Turbo Diesel Engine (wip)

I dont think the old ones like ours is any thing to do with Pugeot. But the new ford/pug/citroen diesels are all made by ford now I think.
The pug and Citroen diesels have always had a good reputation, I think the old ford diesels have the reputation of just being basic. So I guess ford needed to flip the switch a bit! _________________ www.faltownskateboards.com
Hi I'd agree about the differences between the Peugeot and VAG group engines.
Every VAG diesel I see on the road smokes like a trooper, becasue its old technology pushed to the edge, the new Peugeot/Ford engines are far smoother and nicer engines
My friend has a 2.0lt HDI Citroen its a sweet sweet runner.

might be a silly one this to those with more engineering knowhow (about 95% of you!)
any ideas where i put the sender to my rev counter on a 1.9td pug/citroen engine?
I've tried putting it on several sensors and have comup with bob-all. :smt016

On my Escort TD it comes off the alternator ! apparently

If your alternator has a W-terminal (Bosch alternator) or equivalent, then that is the one to use with an appropriate rev counter.
W-terminal creation on a VW Type 4 engine's Bosch alternator
Some rev counters (i.e. tachometers) are incompatible with some electronic ignition systems, of which I was was warned in relation to my Microdynamics Formula 1, FCD electronic ignition system, with integral smooth-cut, adjustable rev limiter, which I retro-fitted in 1989, to my 1973 VW "1600" Type 2.
Hence, it seemed prudent to use the type of rev counter, intended for diesel-engined cars, which derives its signal from the alternator, requiring the creation of a W-terminal, from which to sense one of the alternator's AC phases.
Note the blue-coloured solder joint, to which I connected a light-duty, insulated wire, with glass fibre, heat-resistant sleeving, which also connects to a home-made, ¼-inch blade terminal, set into the alternator carcass, using epoxy resin and small offcuts of blue-coloured, glass-fibre printed circuit-board material.
The two red-coloured solder joints, are alternative sites, to which I could have connected an insulated wire, to create a W-terminal facility. _________________ Nigel A. Skeet

According to the following book, the alternator terminal for tachometer (i.e. engine rev counter) connection, is labelled as either AC (Motorola), AC Tap (Prestolite), R (Silver Bullet), X (Niehoff) and W (Bosch, Ingram, Paris-Rhone & Valeo). No terminal labels were quoted in the book, for alternators branded as AC Delco, CAV, Lucas, Mitsubishi, Nippon Denso or SEV Marchal.

Thanks for the info Naskeet.
I wasn't taking the pee. If it came across that way, I apologise. Nice to have contributions fella. Much appreciated _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

is naskeet's diagram above suitable for any VDO tachometer or is there a special one that will work off the "W" terminal on a diesel alternator. I have a fairly standard petrol-engine VDO tacho out of a Porsche 924 in my van and it was run off the petrol engine. Is it as simple as plugging in a wire from the W alt terminal to the signal input terminal on the rev counter?
