the project so far and almost ready i have fitted the radiator at a slight angle with the air scoop opening about 1/3rd the rad aeria with fan above , seems to be ok so far. i have turned the rear spring plates one spline which has put the back at the correct hight.i havnt got any airlock issues and it filled and pushed the air out first time.the home made adaptor plate works fine. more to follow.....nobby.
now driving and so far so good . cools well and plenty of power. went through the mot fine . i am going to modify the exhaust and fit a resenator to make a bit quieter at low revs. a 2 ltr gearbox will help top end.

Some top work there mate great to see how people go about the same conversions and yours looks not too dissimiliar to mine
The rad looks really good are you running at standard height ? What rad are you using ?
I reckon I'll end up going this route.. tempted to go the same route as richbaker78 but what a faff I'm sure his will be great in the end but if yours does the job it gets my vote
When do you reckon you'll be on the road ?
Keep up the good work and keep the pics coming. _________________ 1971 Devon Bay with 1800 Ford Turbo Diesel Engine (wip)

| hi, standard 1.8 escort van diesel rad fitted. yes i am running at standard hight. i am thinking about wraping a thin steel strip around the steel water pipes to act as cooling fins making good use of the extra cooling aeria, and i might fit a small electric fan in the engine bay to move the air around on very hot days traffic jams etc. does yours have a servo on the brakes or do you know if you need a different beam to fit one......nobby |

hi Nobby - good work there - all looks very tidy. In answer to your servo question - you may already have a mounting bracket on the beam - its like a square plate with 4 small mounting holes and 1 large hoel through the middle - im sure you could get measurements to make one (i think JP has his apart at the mo. to measure) however given your rad set up I think i would go for a differnet set up from standard to allow airflow throught hte front beam - it makes quite a blockage. Ive heard of remote servos which can be fitted anywhere but im afriad I dont have much more info than that. ALso have you seen the price of a T2 servo!! even 2nd hand they aint cheap.
Jp you lightweight you know you want to cut a big hole in your van btw - dont take your porka into the goat enclosure - I came out the barn to see my bonnet adorned with a goat shaped mascot and lots of scratches. |

Nice work very pro set up, let us know how she goes when you get her on the road!
Do you know what year your engine is-I noticed it has the same engine mount as JP's, mine is behind the oil filter much higher up and my exhaust manifold is slightly differant! Mine came out of an Escort G reg. 4 door Saloon. I had never seen an escort with that engine mount before and it seems you've all got em! _________________ www.faltownskateboards.com |

hi. my 1.8 d came out of a 1995 escort van. i fitted an ex manifold from a sierra 1.8td as it comes down to fit a turbo. i have done many years of work on the 1.8 diesel and some had different castings and drillings on the block to fit earley p100 pickups. thease were the same as mark 111 and 4 escorts/ orions . the fiesta diesels had slightly different fuel systems and smaller inlet manifolds. i have just discovered that there are two widths of cambelt fitted i have fitted the narrow one as i know timing belts fail due to rubbing against the pump belt. ....nobby |

Good knolage chap. Do you know if the TD uses the same alternator as the standard 1.8D's. I wanna fit a tach and I heard you need a diesel/tach specsific alternator-any ideas?
Also does any one know of any aftermarket tachs that run off of the alternator I have only come across the VDO ones? _________________ www.faltownskateboards.com |

Nice one Nobby good to hear of another 1.8 trundling around. What temperature does yours run at and do your fans have to stay on on long motorway drives or do they cut in and out?
Congratulations again for getting the bus on the road. _________________ www.faltownskateboards.com |
