It had a Rover V8 mounted with an old UVA adaptor. Unfortunately I sold it before I got around to doing really interesting with it - it's now black and red and looks seriously shite (IMHO)

Ah that was your bus was it.. think I've posted some pics of it on here somewhere in the past... A V8 must have been sweet to drive super schmoove

What rad did it use ? Did you do the work ?

Have you come across many waterkooled conversions ?

It had a Range Rover rad mounted under the front panel. The conversion was originally done in the late 80s along with a full resto and was one of 2. The other one got featured in a magazine at the time. They must have spent a fortune on it but a lot needed re-doing by the time I got my hands on it

As always I had big plans (roof mounted split ally rads hidden in the back (non lifting section) of a Westy pop top, water pipes up the rear pillers, that sort of jazz), but drag racing got in the way.

In the end all I got around to doing was changing the spannered stock ( ) clutch for a KEP one as it had when first converted and re-doing some of the water pipes in silicone as the engine had melted the cheap rubber ones it had from the 80s. Well, that and a full front axle rebuild from the ball joints out. I punted it on for something like 1500 quid with 12 months test which I didn't think was half bad. It certainly shifted but it needed a fair amount of resto work (which I strongly suspect still hasn't been done...)

Oh and the rad had required the steering to be changed to rack and pinion as well, which transformed the driving experience over the average bay window

Intersting rack and pinion .. have you got any pics of that ? what was involved with that ?

The conversion itself was really simple, but it involved welding hefty brackets to the front beam to take the rack. It used what I was told was a Mk2 Cavalier manual rack (it had GM cast into it so it was definately a VX one) with the standard tie rods. I'll see if I can nail down a picture at home - I'm sure I've got one somewhere.

Yes mate a rack and pinion-I've been thinking of doing this for ages but hadent quite worked it out yet. I was trying to keep the rack mounted behind thewheels but there aren't many cars out there that have racks like that.

Any pictures you have would be awesome to see-I definatly want to do this convewrsion as I hate campervan steering at speed!

I've seen the stuff about angles etc. in the steering a couple of times and wouldn't proclaim to be an expert in it by any stretch of the imagination - I do know the set-up on the bay worked fine though

The V8 was about the same as the 2.0 litre type 4 that was in there before on fuel if you didn't drive like a loony. If you put your foot down all the time though I'm sure that single figures are more than possible
