Spoke to someone yesterday who was planning to install the Subaru tank. I did wonder whether he'd actually seen what size / shape they are though!
My original plan back when I had bays was to install the Subaru in tank pump / filter into a bay tank. Quite a big (and dangerous) fabrication job in itself, and you need to do internal tank mods as well as just fitting the flange. This was for a nat asp installation, so didn't need to be relocated. In the end I sold the bay as I couldn't bring myself to modify a genuine 40,000 mile bus.
The bay tanks are nice and rectangular compared to the Subaru ones, so lend themselves to being fitted elsewhere, although I think I'd want it in a sealed box, vented to outside if it was under the rear seat. _________________ Regards,

which bit do you like? the tank with the subaru pump or the removable cover thing?
if its the former then its not that bad. But I dried my tank out for ages (prob a year or so) and also had my mate weld it as i dont have a TIG welder. Basically i got a plate water jet cut in steel to the size of the subaru pump (Alex FTS sorted this for me). You need to cut pretty much all of your VW tank top off and replace with the plate. Then cut up a subaru donor tank and used the baffles inside the tank around the fuel pump to create a sort of sump.
Make sure your tanks in good nick tho before you start - i then gave it a treatment with Frosts tank lining kit to keep all the fuel in. Outside was painted with a petrol tolerant paint for extra protection. All this is in pictures in my build thread in kool Rides
The removable cover thing is a lot more complicated than it looks....and will take a long time to explain and even longer to replicate! |

It's all looking good Rich. I'm obviously out of date with your progress - last pics I saw you'd just cut a big hole there, but that was ages ago. I must catch up!i _________________ Regards,
