Thought I'd follow up on this!
The inability to disengage the clutch turned out to be a combination of things - mostly the makeshift master cylinder bracket I'd made was flexing too much, but combine ...

Cheers for the replies guys! As I was convinced it was an engine out job I left it at a local garage a mate recommended whilst I went on hols - came back to it all fixed with no need to drop the engin ...

Looking through the forums this seems like quite a common problem!
Decided I'm gonna have to pull the engine to figure out what's up with the clutch, but just wondered if anyone can tell what adapter ...

Hi all,
The Pinto powered van I bought last year always had something dodgy going on with the clutch - last year the clutch pedal occasionally went to the floor and wouldn't return, but lifting it up ...

I've been thinking twin 40's too (or even 45's), but I think the mrs will kill me if she find out I spent the best part of £800 just to gain a few mm clearance!
