yeah, busy times! holiday planned for next week, to GB. London, Devon, Cornwall...
Yesterday, we went to friends. when we got there, during parking the hose for the clutch popped out of the master cilinder.
Luckily, I just got to push it back, use some extra rope for fixation and drive home! no problems with gearchange whatsoever....!
Only real issue now is rear suspension, which I am not happy with yet. It is driveable, but I have to make a plan on how to improve this. Other than that, it cruises nicely! _________________ 1973 BayWindow running 1.9 110 bhp TDI with flipped gearbox.
We just got back from england. Had a great holiday! (besides the day we spend in east wittering, God that place is aweful!)
Visited london, eastbourne, saw white cliffs, saw canterbury and of course some stuff in between.
The bus has been great! We had 1 minor breakdown. Cruising at the highway, I noticed a lack of power and because I have a turbo pressure gauge, I also noticed lack of boost. after opening a window, I heard a clear whissssss.
I pulled over, just to find out I had somehow lost a hose clamp and a turbo how was leaking now. I had the richt clamp with me, bolted it one, and off we went. No further problems!
And it pulls! uphill, downhill. It is just great to drive.
in england we didn't go over 100 kph. that was fine. In holland, we also had to do 250 kilometers, from the ferry back home and there, I went a lot faster. When I do that, I still loose gearbox oil so that is something that will get attention next.

Sounds like you had an awesome trip. I'm just back from EBI in Begium and had a few issues on the way but made it safe and sound. Great to know your kombi is running nicely and you are having fun and using it for what it is meant for
Yeah, I really had a nice trip. I actually took bad, off road tracks and I was suprised that I never hit anything as the engine and radiator scoop are a lot lower now.
Still, I am not fully satisfied with the setup. I solved the issue with the large angle on the CV's by using way bigger wheels (10 cm extra in diameter).
The joints are now fine, I drive stock baywindow joints, as there is hardly an angle now. But the big wheels do have an impact on performance. I can drive up to 5th geard and all, but especially in first and second gear it is noticable. But if I go back to small wheels, the ground clearance won't be enough or the CV angle will increase again. Both of which I do not want...
I have been looking really hard, but haven't found a solutiong yet. I even considered the honda engines that rotate counterclockwise, but they all have transverse engines.
one thing I am considering now is looking for another gearbow with the shortest gears, as I now had the TDI 5 speed box with longest gears.. Maybe this will compensate for the bigger wheels....

Maybe because I've not much progress.
But I'm still here.
Others don't seem to be.
I remember a couple of years ago it went quite too.
it Recovered a bit though. Now it's gone quite again.
What tdi gearbox will have best ratios for you ?
This is interesting.
I have been using the bus as daily driver lately, and yesterday a problem occured.
When taking off in first, the engine/box starts clappering. I think the cluthc plates have oil on them.
I also have had oil leaks since the conversion, and never could trace it. I think the gearbox is leaking on the input shaft.
As I was already considering a different ratio, I think I will take it all out and replace the box and clutch...
Lots to do...
Oh, and I am going for the cut 'n shut gearbox method.
Or try and see if I can Flip a DSG automatic gearbox......... but that will be a more longterm project I think... I have contacted Volkswagen to see if this can be done, and I am still waiting for a sensible reply. _________________ 1973 BayWindow running 1.9 110 bhp TDI with flipped gearbox.

I am still in doubt. Ideally I would fit them and test drive them.
for now, I think box code DWF or FCB would be best.
I have trouble finding them though. Does anybody know what car came with what box?
I'm not sure of the gearbox code, my Cheetah has the gearbox from the 90HP B4 Passat estate gearbox. I was told that this has the lowest stock gearset available which is still not great for my bohemoth cheetah. _________________ Think......
